Possibly one of the finest Pinotage reds produced in the Cape, The Lanzerac Pionier is a tribute to the first world’s first bottled Pinotage on the very same estate.
This serious wine has an excellent deep colour, with typical varietal aromas like ripe, plummy red fruit on the nose and palate. A big mouth-feel, complex and velvety pallet and long and lingering aftertaste rounds off this wine perfectly. With 5 to 10 years maturation, the Pionier Pinotage will start to acquire the velvet density and luxurious chocolate flavours which are synonymous with this world famous variety.
Food Match: pairs perfectly with flavourful dishes such as loin of venison with confit potato and juniper jus, lamb boti Kabab with pounded spices and yogurt marinade or Sous vide duck leg with bulgur wheat and cherries.
Style: Full bodied and savoury
