This distinctive red blend brings together 62% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Malbec, paying tribute to Catharina Ras, the founder of Steenberg. Her story was one of adventure, courage and perseverance — qualities that are reflected in the wine’s bold character, depth and complexity.
Each variety was vinified separately in stainless steel tanks, with a small portion of juice removed before fermentation to enhance concentration and body. Extended skin contact allowed the grapes to develop colour, flavour and structure, before the individual wines were brought together and aged for 22 months in used French oak barrels. The result is a beautifully layered red with depth and refinement, while retaining the fruit at its core.
Tasting Notes
Deep, dark red in colour with a garnet rim. The nose opens with blackcurrant, ripe plum and warm spice, followed by generous flavours of blackberry, cherry and subtle spice on the palate. Smooth and beautifully balanced, with soft, polished tannins and a gentle touch of oak. The finish is long, silky and refined.
Bold, layered and effortlessly elegant.
