A beautifully refined expression of South African Grenache from Duncan Savage, made from dry-farmed bush vines planted at an impressive 704 metres in the remote Piekenierskloof. The combination of ancient sandstone soils, warm days and cool nights produces Grenache with remarkable freshness, purity and elegance.
The 2025 vintage is wonderfully aromatic, showing vibrant red cherry, bramble, wild herbs and subtle spice. On the palate, juicy red fruit is balanced by savoury complexity, bright acidity and fine, chalky tannins, finishing long and mineral-driven.
Fermented with indigenous yeasts and a portion of whole bunches, the wine spends 10 months in concrete eggs and seasoned 500-litre French oak, allowing the character of the vineyard to take centre stage rather than being dominated by oak.
A superb example of why Piekenierskloof is becoming one of South Africa's most exciting sources of Grenache — elegant, lifted and distinctly savoury rather than heavy or jammy.
